Gubernur Pramono melakukan pertemuan bilateral strategis dengan Governing Mayor Berlin

Jakarta and Berlin Strengthen Collaboration to Achieve Sustainable Mobility

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung held a strategic bilateral meeting with Governing Mayor Berlin, Kai Wegner, at Rotes Rathaus, Berlin, Monday (11/24).

Berlin has been a key partner for Jakarta

The meeting was held to strengthen the commitment to strategic cooperation between the two cities, particularly in the areas of governance, sustainable mobility, and creative economic development.

Pramono stated that Jakarta is currently undergoing a major leap in urban development. Through active urban diplomacy, Jakarta is positioning itself as one of the most important urban centers in Southeast Asia, while also forging strategic collaborations to strengthen the quality of public services and the well-being of its citizens.

"Berlin has been a key partner for Jakarta. Berlin's expertise in civic engagement and smart governance helps us build a government that is more open and closer to its citizens," stated Pramono, as quoted from a press release, Wednesday (11/26).

Pramono added that the partnership is not merely a technocratic exchange, but part of Jakarta's long-term agenda to ensure that city development is more transparent, participatory, and responsive.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the topic of sustainable mobility. Berlin shared its experience in integrating various modes of public transportation, developing multimodal systems, and planning Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) areas.

This knowledge is highly relevant to the Jakarta Provincial Government's priority policies to expand the MRT network, improve intermodal connectivity, and create a safe and pedestrian-friendly urban space.

"We want to create a humane city, a city that supports its citizens. Learnings from Berlin help us accelerate that transformation," he added.

The two leaders also discussed strengthening the creative economy and innovation sectors, particularly in developing the Jakarta Future City Hub, a collaborative space inspired by Berlin's creative ecosystem. This collaborative space aims to foster the growth of the creative industry, particularly among young people and startups.

"A city of the future is one that fosters creativity, innovation, and the courage of its young people. The partnership with Berlin strengthens that foundation," he continued.

The meeting at Rotes Rathaus also emphasized Jakarta's efforts to enter the Top 50 Global Cities by 2030 and the Top 20 by 2045.

On this occasion, Governor Pramono also invited Mayor Wegner to attend the 500th Anniversary celebration of Jakarta in 2027, as a symbol of the closeness and commitment to collaboration between the two cities and to strengthen long-term relations.
